FAQs
Where is Cartwright’s Acres located?
We’re a family-run farm nestled on 160 beautiful acres in Miocene, BC. Our farm includes pastureland, gardens, and forested areas, all managed with a deep respect for the land and animals.
What is hanging weight?
Hanging weight (also called hot carcass weight) is the weight of the animal after it has been harvested, with the head, hide, blood, and internal organs removed — but before it has been processed into retail cuts
This is the weight used to calculate the price of bulk beef orders (like quarter, half, and whole). On average, you will take home between 60% - 65% of the hanging weight in packaged meat after aging, trimming, and processing.
“For example, a half cow with a 300lbs hanging weight will usually yield 180-195lbs of packaged beef.”
What makes your meat different?
We raise our animals using regenerative and ethical practices. Our cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. Our chickens and pigs are pasture-raised, rotated frequently, and never confined in feedlots. We never use hormones or unnecessary antibiotics.
What do your animals eat?
Our cattle graze on diverse pastures and are moved daily for optimal health. Chickens and pigs are rotated through fresh pasture and supplemented with locally milled, non-GMO feed.
